Being minimal

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

Somehow we have a lot of things in our house. More than what we can store may be due to a lack of storage. But then I confirmed it as hoarded goods because of the stress it brings as part of arranging and tidying up. That's when I decided to keep only what is needed. There are a lot of things that bring joy but they may all not need in our daily life. So it is better to get rid of extra things. Clothes, books, craft materials, exercise equipment, decor, toys, etc are the main culprits.

This is the ongoing decluttering routine I have been following over many years:

  1. After every winter/summer, I gather those unused clothes and donate them to charity shops.

  2. I declutter my kitchen every year.

  3. Anything unused for over six months to one year will be taken to charity shops.

  4. I give away those old toys, books, and craft materials.

The clutter began to pile up since the arrival of our baby girl. As she grows, more things get added. Finally, after five years, I realized its time to get rid of materials. The fewer materials in the house, I get more time to focus on purposeful matters. I decluttered a lot of things in the house, keeping some things for memory. I guided my daughter to get engaged with activities like Lego, art, etc. Art and Lego are her favorites now. We often go out to the beach or parks rather than being hooked with materials.

These are the things I declutter every six months:

  1. Clothes and shoes

  2. Toys

  3. Books

  4. Decors

Happy decluttering people!
